A major blast took place inside a mosque in Gausabad area of Quetta, Balochistan city. The blast killed 15 people, including a police officer, while 20 people are said to be injured. The police officer killed in the blast has been identified as Deputy Superintendent of Police Haji Amanullah. Other people are not yet identified. Balochistan IG Police Amjad Batt said that the mosque exploded after the prayers of Maghrib.
He said that DSP Amanullah and the Imam of the mosque are among those who have been martyred in the blast incident. Police said rescue and relief operations have been started at the scene. Rescue teams are at the scene to take care of the injured. The police officer said that the incident is under investigation. The Chief Minister of Balochistan condemned the incident and directed the police to submit the investigation report.
Balochistan Interior Minister Jia Langov condemned this, saying the militants were scared of the development of Pakistan. He said that internal and external enemies are trying unsuccessfully to create panic and unrest in the country. Defeated terrorists will never be allowed to succeed. Law enforcement agencies have closed the area. Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in all the hospitals in the area. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
Pakistan Army’s media wing ISPR said that a contingent of Frontier Corp (FC) troops from Balochistan have reached the spot and are conducting a joint search operation with the police. The ISPR quoted Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa as saying that all possible assistance should be given to the police and administration. Those who target innocent people in the mosque can never be true Muslims.
