Rivers are flowing above the danger mark due to heavy rains in three quarters of the country. The current monsoon is in its final stages. Most of the rivers in the north-west states are in spate, while this will be the second round of flooding in the rivers of the eastern states. All the major rivers of North India are on the rise, most of the 125 water reservoirs in the country are already full of warnings. Due to excess of water, their gates can be opened, which can bring devastation in the form of floods. In view of the meteorological department’s warning, instructions have already been issued to the people of the lower areas around the rivers to be vigilant. From the Himalayan states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, the rivers are in spate due to heavy rains and torrential rains for the next few days. The water levels of the rivers of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have risen above the danger mark.
