Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Bharatvanshi Chandrika Prasad Santokhi, who has been appointed as the new President of the Latin American country Suriname. He mentioned Chandrika Prasad Santokhi during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday. PM Modi said that Chandrika Prasad Santokhi took the oath of President by taking Vedas in his hand and chanting. PM Modi said, “Recently Mr. Chandrika Prasad Santokhi became the new President of Suriname. He is a friend of India. He also attended the Person of Indian Origin Parliamentary Conference held in the year 2018. He started the oath with Ved mantras. And spoke in Sanskrit. ” The Prime Minister further said, “He took the Veda in his hand and said – I chant Chandrika Prasad Santokhi and chanted further – ॐ Agne vratapate vratam charyashiyam tachhkemaye tanme radhyatham. Idhamahnrutat satyumapaimi.” Let me tell you, Chandrika Prasad is the leader of Santokhi Progressive Reform Party (PRP), who replaced former military dictator Daisy Bouterse, whose National Party of Suriname (NPS) lost the election in May. Santokhi has taken over the reins of Suriname’s leadership at a time when its relations have deteriorated with other Western countries, including the Netherlands. The country is also going through a period of economic crisis.
